As we're currently going through a rewrite, see what we have planned for this year.

It's no secret that major Music Streaming services like YouTube Music and Spotify are constantly pushing updates that upset the community. Both love the usage of AI, ADs, ID Verification, Data Selling, Subscriptions and many more bitter features.

Audaify is a project that aims to replace these two giant monopolies with software that is free, privacy first and designed for the user. As the year is still young, there is a lot of work to be done!

What happened to the original version?

Unfortunately with breaking changes and API restrictions, the original client is no longer sustainable or maintainable to develop. We've decided to rework our services to improve them and rely less on 3rd Party APIs like the Spotify Web API.

The first step is redoing our web client and API. Currently, we rely on Spotify OAuth and the Spotify Web API. However, after Spotify announced some major changes to the Web API, we've decided to move away from their authentication and reliance on their APIs for searching for media.

Our plans have changed. We are focusing on developing the actual clients first. We are developing an iOS and Android client that will have minimal features first. You'll be able to search for music of your liking and play them, however, there will be no Spotify or YouTube Integration at this moment. We will begin developing solutions for importing your custom playlists at a later date.

With this in mind, our next API will let us reduce the amount of boilerplate code since we do not need to rely on the Spotify OAuth anymore and will rather shift to our own in-house authentication system. This will allow us to easily develop clients for different platforms.

Our authentication and login API will be an in-house system. You will create an account that's explicitly for our services only and will function similar to how Spotify works. This does not impose restrictions but rather breaks free from reliance on 3rd Party Systems which will work better in the long run.

What will happen to the clients?

All our clients (web, mobile and desktop) will get a major overhaul, new design and more flexibility for searching for media.

As of now, we are primarily focusing on the web client. Once that is completed, we will shift development to mobile clients for iOS and Android. Once our mobile clients are complete we aim to develop native clients for desktop. There will be no sign of React Native or Electron Bloatware in our clients.

We have begun development of our custom API and development of our mobile clients. We are targeting iOS first but will focus on Android as well.

Target 1. New API

As mentioned earlier, we are working on our own API. I will explain it in more depth here. We are working on a custom authentication system will be used across our services and open to the public in the future (once it's stable). Our API will search for songs, playlists, artists, podcasts, etc from Spotify and soon YouTube Music. You will also be able to queue songs, create new playlists, re-order songs and download them for offline listening.

Target 2. New UI Design

Our old UI was a little outdated and not very fitting for our brand. We are overhauling the UI to utilise a more premium look with the colours red and black. This scheme will apply to all clients, however we will prefer native elements over customised ones for mobile and desktop.

Target 3. Audio Streaming

Audaify used to work by downloading a song in full before beginning playback. While this ensured no data loss and more accuracy, it was slow and not efficient for our servers. We are moving towards streaming audio as it is received. This allows for faster loading and immediate playback.

Target 4. Offline Mode

Our plan is to develop a feature to allow users to listen anywhere, anytime with or without internet. We will be adding a download feature to playlists and songs. Unlike Spotify, this is completely free and will always remain free.

Target 5. User Features

We want to make our platform more accessible for people and easier to share content. We will be adding profiles, playlists, favourite songs, etc. You will be able to generate a link to share these to other users. We also want to allow for uploading your own indie songs/media but that's for another blog!

And much more to come

These are only some of the things we intend to add, there so much more to add but it'll turn this post into an hour long read. We will keep posting and upadting this blog as needed but stay on the lookout from us so you don't miss anything exciting!

Some Extra Notes

This seems like a lot of effort. Isn't Spotify or YouTube Music with ads fine? Well it used to be until the ads are overused and they collect personal information. Now they want to add ID verification, which is a breach of trust. Audaify is designed to be for enjoying music with no strings attached. It's time we had control over software and own it instead of owning nothing and be happy.

Well how can I find out more?

We will be posting more blogs, though it is not our current priority as these blogs are currently hard coded to save time. Don't fret, you can always reach out to us in our Fluxer Server which can be found here.

Want to help us? Please consider donating!

We are proud to keep this software free and open to everyone to use. However, that comes at a price for us. We currently are in need of funding to help pay for our systems such as hosting provider, domains and more. If you're able to spare some change, that really makes the difference, especially when we are leaning towards open source. We will update this blog with a donation link once ready.
